Second Blog

Today in Media i have been continuing my school Magazine cover (done on Photoshop) from last lesson. It is coming along well but i still have a few more things to do to make it that little bit better.

Today I have been finishing off and touching up on everthing that needs to be finished. I have now finished it and now in my planning folder I have got: a double page spread analysis, a mind map of genres of music, two magazine front cover analysis, a picture board of photos taken on the school camera and evaluation of the picture board and a design of my school front cover magazine and design of the contents page. Also before, the picture borad was not coming up when I opened it, so I replaced it with a copy from my memory stick and now it opens.

Today I have been finishing off my School Prelim Magazine front cover. I have added new texts and edited the layout using photoshop. I also put stronger drop shadows on the texts to make them stand out more.

I also Finished mt Contents Pages for my School Prelim Magazine. It is just a loutout design of what a contents page for this magazine could look like if I was actually going to design it.

Today I have finished all my music magazine task including my front cover, contents page and double page spread. I used photoshop workshop to create my front cover and contents page designs. I planned a photo shoot which I held in the lighting room at school. Most of these pictures are the pictures featured in all of my music magazine. My double page spread was designed on the 'indesign' program. It took a little while to get used to after using photoshop for a while but It was fine after a while. I am really happy with what my double page spread looks like at the moment. I was really happy and proud of my front cover because I worked really hard on it. It turned out to look very nice and I think the Images and fonts (and colours) go together really well. My contents page I was happy with too, but if elt i could do a little bit more to it, so i added a few paint splatters to fill the page out a bit more, and also make it look a bit more interesting. My double page spread turned out good too. At first it looked very empty and boring, but, with Help from my teacher, i turned into an interesting page. I liked the fonts and i think the images worked really well together.

This is what my magazine looks like:

11/01/10 - USING PHOTOSHOP
Photoshop is the programme we used to create our front cover and contents pages for our music magazine. The different icons are helpful to create different effects, crop and resize pictures, and text and symbols and more. On the top right hand corner there is a little box which will show your work of the whole page design for you to see. For my front cover, I used the shape tool a lot to make my magazine look fuller. I also used the rubbing out tool to outline the edges of some of the images I used for my front cover. I used the tools to add outer glows and drop shadows on my texts to make them stand out so they dont look flat against the page.

USING INDESIGN
Indesign workshop is similar to the Photoshop software. Most of the tools are the same. They can make shapes, create text boxes, draw, rub out, add colour, rotate images and more. The only draw back of indesign workshop is that to make to images bigger, you have to press 'cmd shift' for the images to resize otherwise some of the image just gets chopped off. I also used the magnify tool to get in closer to the page and ee what needs to be corrrected. Overall, using indesign to create my double page spread was good and I would use it again for future peices of work.

  1. i think the double page spread is good because there are hardly any gaps and the spaces are filled well.
The school front cover is good, however i personally would of chosen a different font for the 'charity fun day', but other then that i think it is well laid out and clear.

  3. Natasha, I think that your double page spread is really nice it is full and does not have any gaps, the colours you have used go well together and there isn't anything that sticks out in a bad way.

I think that the images used are strong one, the glows given to them work well with the background colour, it makes them look as if they are not flat but are actually 3d.

  4. I really like the theme you have carried out throughout your whole project. I really like the layout on your double page spread, contents and front cover. It is really well layed out and i really like the font style and colour scheme. I really like how different your double page spread has been layed out, it makes it look really interesting even just to look at. I especially like the font style you used for the band name on the doulbe ppage spread, it is really different to anything you see normally in magazines.

  5. Tash I love the front cover. I think your front cover as been very well put together and looks like a professional magazine that you would buy out of a newsagents. The models support the magazine's theme effectively and you have coverlines and sell lines to support the front page. One thing I would change is maybe space out the sell lines a bit more as they look a tiny bit squashed in and leave space on the outside. I still think you've done a fantastic job, well done :D

  6. I like your magazine as the colour scheme is very eye catching, one thing you could change in the future could be to add more to the front cover e.g. sell lines and cover lines apar from that the front cover is a success.

Your double page spread is filled up to max, great job there and i like all the images you have used one thing i could suggest is that you could of maybe had some more writing on the double page spread, but i know it is hard to find things to write about. Apart from that well done :)

  8. I really like your double page spread, it really does the job well. Everything is layed out well and you have got a good balance of text and images. There are no gaps and the colour scheme is nice. I like the way that the gaps have been filled by little music notes and stars. All of the images look great so your magazine is looking really good :)
